What’s on – Hayling Island Events

July 2016

July 28, 20167:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Hayling Island Library 02392 461534 Social event https://www.hants.gov.uk/shop/product.php?productid=19654

The year was 1919, a momentous year for Portsmouth and the surrounding areas. 2016 sees the Centenaries of The Battle of Jutland and The Battle of the Somme, both battles having a major effect on the local community. Portsmouth was one of the first towns in the country to see Soup Kitchens and Food Banks as the grieving families were left without their men folk. This talk will examine the effect Jutland and the Somme had on Portsmouth and the surrounding area, supported by a display of artefacts and stories from the local men and women involved.

Tickets are £5 available from the library, through the booking line or online at www.hants.gov.uk/shop. Advanced booking is essential to avoid disappointment.
