Based on the novel by Roald Dahl
This classic childrens play is performed by HIYA (Hayling Island Young Actors).
When poor James Henry Trotter loses his parents in a horrible rhinoceros accident, he is forced to live with his two wicked aunts, Aunt Sponge and Aunt Spiker. After three years he becomes "the saddest and loneliest boy you could find." Then one day, a wizened old man in a dark-green suit gives James a bag of magic crystals that promise to reverse his misery forever. When James accidentally spills the crystals on his aunts' withered peach tree, he sets the adventure in motion. From the old tree a single peach grows, and grows, and grows some more, until finally James climbs inside the giant fruit and rolls away from his despicable aunts to a whole new life. James befriends an assortment of hilarious characters, including Grasshopper, Earthworm, Miss Spider, and Centipede

Hayling Island Residents Association Meeting At the URC Church Hall, Mengham, Hayling.
Discover Hayling will present an illustrated talk and display for the Residents’ Association, on July 22nd. We will be showing the results of our work to date, recording Hayling’s involvement in the war effort from 1939 to 1945, but especially the role of the secret reconnaissance unit COPP – Combined Operations Pilotage
Fewer than 200 men of COPP made a huge contribution to the Allied cause, saving countless thousands of lives by their skill and daring. There is no doubt that this is a major story of truly international significance, and one of which Hayling, and the Havant borough, should be extremely proud.
The evening will feature an updated exhibition of photographs and displays, an illustrated talk, and some new highlights from our forthcoming DVD “Hayling at War”. We will also be launching the latest in our range of A5 booklets, entitled “Hayling’s Heroes”, introducing the COPP story, which has been generously funded by a well known local business.
In conclusion, we hope to announce news of progress in our continuing efforts to create a lasting memorial to those brave men, of whom as far as we know, just 2 still survive.

| RNLI Open Day |
The Hayling RNLI station will be opening its doors once again to the public for a family fun Open Day on Sunday 25th July.
Visitors will have the opportunity to visit the station and see the two Hayling Island inshore lifeboats in action during demonstrations of their launch and recovery techniques. There will also be other attractions such as displays from the Southern Model Lifeboats Society, HM Coastguard, Chichester Harbour Conservancy, Hampshire Fire & Rescue, Hayling First Responders and the Lowland Search Dogs (Southern). There will be some children’s activities plus sales of RNLI souvenirs and the new book about the history of the station.
The Open Day starts from 10.30am until 4pm. The event is free and there is ample parking. The lifeboat station is on the south eastern corner of Hayling Island, just off Bracklesham Road.

Hayling United are hosting the very first FA cup tie to be played on the island on august the 14th at the Hayling college. The tie will be between Hayling and Blackfield & Langley. Come on down and cheer the humbugs onto victory in this historic cup match. K/O is at 3pm, entrance fee is £5 for adults and £3 for concessions and children(accompanied children go free). Bar and refreshments available.
As stated K.O. 3pm at the Hayling college for this very first hosting of an FA cup tie in Hayling's history. Be part of history yourself and cheer the humbugs on! |
