Rowing in fixed seat boats is one of the fastest growing sports around – from Thames boats to Cornish Gigs - rowing is one of the genuine ‘sports for all’because anyone can do it at any age and it does not take long to learn.

The Annual West Town Music Festival is being held on Sunday, August 7th in the garden of The West Town Hotel on Station Road, Hayling Island.



At least 10 bands will be performing and the festivities start at 12 noon and continue into the evening.

Tom Jones is based on the novel by Henry Fielding and is a rich, ripe and rowdy 18th century comedy. Tom Jones, a foundling adopted by Squire Allworthy, falls victim to the charms of one rustic wench after another. Having disgraced his family he is sent away and barred from marrying his true love Sophia Western. His travels lead him into more saucy encounters, to facing death and eventually to the truth about his parentage. A fun and poignant piece.

Jack the Ripper Night
A one night experience of storytelling and song presented by Hayling Musical society. Lindsay Siviter from London tells the gory story of the ripper himself while the cast, from their latest show Jack the Ripper - a musical play present songs and dialogue to add to the evening. Bring your friends, nibbles and enjoy reliving this mystery - will you know who dunnit by the end?

The evening is at Fort Purbrook, a spooky place a the best of times, from 8.00-9.30. Tickets are £5

Saturday - 12pm-12am Winstones Boxing Gym will be doing a 24hr sponsored run to help raise funds. Members of the Boxing gym as well as locals will be getting their best running trainers on and pounding the miles on a treadmill situated in Lilys. They will run continually for 12hrs on Saturday and 12hrs on Sunday. Come along and cheer them on.

Jumble Sale at URC Hall
Evolution Twirlers will be holding a fundraising jumble sale.

We need to raise as much money as we can for equipment and dresses for the team.

This will take place on the 27th August at the URC church from 12 midday until 4pm.

We will be selling Books, videos/DVD’s, toys, bits and bobs and clothing.

We will also be holding a cake sale, guess the weight of the cake, face painting and mini games for the kids.

There will also be teas and coffee and juice served.

'Help for Heroes' at Hayling Seaside Railway.
During the school holidays on Tuesday 30th August, volunteers at the Hayling Seaside Railway will be joining forces with members of 8 Flight Hampshire and Isle of Wight Army Cadet Force, to raise money for the ‘Help for Heroes’ service charity.

The event is being organised by 14 year old Harry Gatehouse, a pupil at Prospect High School, Havant, who is a junior volunteer at the Hayling Railway and an active Army Cadet. On the day all takings on the Seaside Railway will be donated directly to Help for Heroes, while Cadets will be on hand in full uniform, to meet and greet passengers and help raise raise further funds for the charity.


Trains on the one mile narrow gauge railway along Hayling Island seafront start at 11am from Beachlands station, which is behind the roller coaster at Funland Amusement Park, and run every 45 minutes to the seaside village of Eastoke Corner, via Mengham Road Halt with the last round trip at 5pm.
