| 10th Anniversary of the Twinning Visit |
This coming weekend sees the celebration of 10 years since Hayling Island was officially twinned with Gorron, in France. A group of 30 are visting from our twin town, many for the first time, with a high proportion of young people.
Thursday 1st May
22.15 The Gorronais arrive at Portsmouth Ferryport
Friday 2nd May
9.30 am Depart for visit to Southwick House for a tour of the WW2 D-Day Invasion Operations Room and Naval Museum
12 noon Ploughmans Lunch at The Churchillian
2.30pm Visit to the Suthwyk Ale Brewhouse
4pm Civic Reception at HBC
7.30pm Fish and Chips and Skittles at the British Legion Regency Room, followed by entertainment in the Main Hall.
Sat 3rd May
10.30am Official 10th Anniversary Ceremony at Hayling Library, including the unveiling of the engraved stone under the Twinning Tree, the reading of the charters and the cutting of the twinning cake, followed by refreshments
7.30pm Celebration Dinner at Hayling Golf Club
Sunday 4th May
10.30am Unveiling of the new Welcome to Hayling sign, with twinning announcement at the bridge
12 noon Buffet lunch at Seacourt, including presentation of the mileage sign for outside the Town Hall in Gorron

A 2 mile (3km) walk along the harbour entrance enjoying the splendid views at low tide, a treasure hunt and a short tour round the new building at the RNLI station. Bring a small bucket for your finds.

The last Sunday ‘Meet’ for Hayling Legends will be at 11am on the 4th May 2008 at the Hayling Billy Pub.
We are then going into our summer sessions starting Wednesday 21st May at 7.30 pm. We will then be meeting every Wednesday evening at that time throughout the summer.
Just turn up with your car or bike if possible, have a beer and enjoy the company of people like you who love cars and bikes with character

| Mill Rythe Inter-Cup Challenge |
Mill Rythe Holiday Resort are having a football match between staff on Sunday 4th May at Mill Rythe Junior School. It will mark the start of a partnership between Havant & Waterlooville Football Club and Mill Rythe Holiday Resort as the Summer will see the HAWKS giving football training at the resort to holiday makers and local kids! The two teams will be playing in the home and away kit of the HAWKS.
Kick off will be at 17:30. Spectators are welcome but please respect the school's grounds. No Alcohol Allowed on School grounds. |

Thriller writer James Twining will be at Hayling Library, speaking about the fascinating world of art theft, inspiration for his magnificent series of exciting novels: The Double Eagle, The Black Sun and The Gilded Seal.
James Twining's first novel, The Double Eagle, was a fast paced, enjoyable conspiracy/caper story. It introduced us to retired art thief Tom Kirk, his former fence/current business partner Archie and FBI Agent Jennifer Browne.
He will be signing copies of his books after the talk.

| Illustrated Talk by Sri Lankan Writer |
Sri Lankan writer and artist, Roma Tearne will be at Havant Arts Centre, speaking about her debut novel Mosquito which was shortlisted for the 2008 Costa First Novel Awards.
Inspired by several paintings when constructing scenes for the book; Roma also painted some scenes before writing them down. Roma herself fled Sri Lanka with her parents when she was ten and she is the only female Sri Lankan author writing about her country’s conflict today.
As author and visual artist she is currently on a fellowship at Oxford Brookes University. This illustrated talk will give unique insights into her different creative processes. Her second novel Bone China was published in April.

Jobsite in the Community
National Community Action Day on 16th May – jobsite volunteers will be involved in two projects which have to be done in a day!
1)Helping to clean up the Mengham Youth Café on Hayling, ie. external repainting, tree planting. Working with a team from Carrillion – both companies will donate the paint, plants, lights, signage and a mural reflecting the activities at the centre – which are boxing, karate, gymnasium, Youth Café and football.
2)Helping to refurbish a Skate Park in Leigh Park… working with the youngsters involved.

| Little Cockles: Shingle Nests and Shell Hunt |
For families with children up to 5 years old. Today we will be building shingle nests (called scrapes) on the beach for some harbour birds and will also do some beach combing, looking for shells and other natural treasures. Bring a small bucket for finds and a snack for afterwards.
