Have a look in the 2009 Hayling Island Directory, available at the Hayling Islander office in Elm Grove if you haven't had one through the door, and choose an organisation - any organisation. Offer to help.

Volunteer to help at the Hayling Island Community Association Centre as a steward. You'll meet lots of people. Pop into a charity shop and see if you can help. Go to the forthcoming meeting re a Youth Centre on Hayling Island and get involved. See if the Red Cross in Elm Grove need help.

You will be welcomed with open arms and soon will have lots of acquaintances and perhaps a friend or two. It's amazing how quickly it will happen and you will be lonely no longer. I promise.

Sitting at home wishing will not bring people to your door, but helping an orgainisation, giving a hand, giving a bit of time brings its own rewards. It may even surprise you that some "fat chavs" can be found doing something for others.

What you give, you get back ten fold!
