Since this violent incident, there seems little progress in catching the culprits. After sending letters to neighbours, emails to the Police and Councillors, it appears the best way to may be get something done about the continuing vandalism and anti social behaviour is to attend the next meeting of the Hayling Island Community Board. If you feel strongly enough about these problems on the Island I would urge you to attend their next meeting which is on Monday 9th August at 7.00 p.m at the Bridge Centre opposite the Barley Mow. Check their website out at www.hicb.org.uk, where you can fill in a feedback form regarding Police Priorities.

That's a very good idea, pat53and.

With regard to the smashed windows ... was very sad that also the Sue Ryder shop in Elm Grove were hit in June. This shop is a charity shop. How low can you go?

As the Hayling Islander August edition says..... "mindless thugs".

Not really sure what my input to the meeting on 9th August could add. Not encouraging really that "little progress on catching culprits".

One month later I have still not got my window sorted (but now on order). It has cost me time and money.

Believe there must of been a few thousand pounds worth of window damage in June/July. Did spot another smashed porch window, guessing it may of been on the same night.

I THINK the tyre slasher on Hayling was caught a few years back? I again suffered a loss on that incident. Had to pay out £100 to replace the tyre off a van we had borrowed. Yes, did have a crime incident report. Did I get money back... NO.

Just guessing that IF the culprits are caught.... they will most probably have to serve a few hours community service.

The tyre slasher got off with a conditional discharge.

Almost a hundred vehicles were damaged according to The News, so a lot of people were affected including holiday-makers to Hayling Island.

A number of windscreens were also smashed but that went unreported.

DNA was found on four or five damaged vehicles and the perpetrator who “had had an argument with his ‘girlfriend’ and was upset” was given a conditional discharge and a small fine/costs.

The police did do their job by bringing the culprit in front of the Magistrates.......but that's all they can do.

I’m sorry to hear about your case pat53and, and I know how distressing it can be and I understand your anger and frustration but if you’re looking for any kind of justice or resolution I’m afraid there is none.

I applied for magistracy.

I was turned down because of my ideas to bring back law and order to our local community ...

they (3 old diddies (?) from a golf club) asked me for my views on capital punishment!
I told them that would not be within my remit.

When I raised the issue of petty vandalism, they said it was not a police priority.

End of interview.
