we were in the Hayling Billy drinking with Tom Babb yesterday,and often do see him there, he said Danny Gaffney died last year.

Hi Stephy,
Have just noticed your message about Danny Gaffney. So sorry to hear of your loss.

My parents Frank and Betty Anderson ran the Hayling Island club until about roughly 1956 and I well remember Johnny Gaffney coming in with the family and his Mum sitting on always the same cane seat under the stairs and near the bar. One day I am afraid the cane seat collapsed with his Mum on it- seat had probably been around too long - and there was much laughter all round. I was a child at the time.

Hoppy and Peggy's Club, next door to us, was named the Nab Club at the time. There was much rivalry between Peggy and my Mum.

I thought you might like the little anecdote above. I am assuming we are talking about the same family although I could be wrong of course.
