Bone's guest house was on Westfield Avenue in the 50s. I lived opposite there as a child. All I remember is the pampas grass in the grounds.

My very first night on Hayling, probably 1955 or 1956 was staying at Mrs. Bone's guest house.

I worked with a George Bone at Vickers Aerospace & Marine Defence at Bedhampton (now Eaton's). He lived on Bacon Lane at the time, this was the early eighties,

[quote=hoffopolis;526048]Hi Folks,
My name is Nick and I've just joined your forum as I'm researching my Bone family ancestors (my mother's family) and it seems they lived in South Hayling at the end of the 1700s/start or the 1800s.... I'm in the early days of my research for this part of the family, but I believe I'm descended from James Bone who was married to a woman named Sarah (my greatX5 grandparents). I think he died in 1797 and she died in 1803. According to Sarah's will, James was a husbandsman. James appears to be buried in the St. Mary's churchyard, according to the church's website, as is his son Thomas and his grandson William. Thomas' daughters married into the Bulbeck and Crasler families. Thomas' will (1823) mentions property in Mengham and West Town.... This forum came up when I was searching for family info on Google. I think I saw James' name and the Bulbecks come up in some discussions so I thought I'd join and see if anyone might have some information on these families or could point me in the right direction to do research and find out more.... Any help would be greatly appreciated! Many thanks, Nick Hoffman Cork, Ireland[/QUOT Hi Nick , Your like this, james bone married sarah north she is my great x5 grandfather`s daughter they married on the 6 oct 1743 at st peters church north hayling, her sister susannah north married a george bone as well on the 24 nov 1757 at st mary's church south hayling are james and george brothers ? sarah' father william north left one shilling in his will to her in 1750. would like to have a copy of sarah's will if that is possible? graham |

Hello...I have just read this thread[ with great interest] I am also researching my Portsea/Plymouth Bone family .
I have a William Bone b. c. 1796[ Shipwright] with a daughter Ann, both apparently from Plymouth , Devon but living in Portsea c. 1822. Names that I have found William or Ann to be connected with in one way or another are, Isaacs, Jackman, Moorman, Fletcher & Bunt. Does anyone have any further information re: this Bone father & daughter - many thanks |

Hi
My ancestor William Bulbeck was the tenant of the Norfolk Arms at Sinai on Hayling from the late 1700's until his death in 1806. From William's will it looks as if running the ferry was part of the same tenancy at that time. I think his son (also William) took on the tenancy after that - and this William married a Martha Bone in 1810. The daughter of William Bulbeck and Martha Bone, Frances Mary Bulbeck married Joseph Thomas Crasler in 1849. Her son Frederick Joseph Crasler married his cousin (Susan Bulbeck - my grandfather's sister, 1856-1898). Susan was the daughter of Frances's cousin Thomas Bulbeck. Frederick Joseph Crasler married again after her death. |
