Other than the parade and medals ceremony in Havant, I am not aware of anything
else going on locally.

The parade by 47 Heavy Regt RA starts at 0930, and will last about an hour.

The National Museum of the Royal Navy at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard are holding an Armed Forces Day event on 30 June beginning at 1230. Admission is free - which makes a change, since there aren't usually any concessions for veterans at the museum.

And to all who serve and have served.

I will admit to a tear when the very brave young man injured in Afganistan, with brain
damage and loss of both legs, was on TV pictured carrying the Olympic torch.

I am so looking forward to tomorrow when our Mayor will present soldiers of the 47th
regiment RA with the Freedom of our Borough. Some 150 will be parading through
Havant to Havant Park at 10.15am.

I'm not particually religeous, but God Bless You All.

I've met Ben Parkinson; he's incredibly driven to make the most of his life despite his injuries.

Yesterday I was working with another of our young men who was injured in Afghanistan, this one a couple of years ago; this one has just undergone the latest of a series of major operations to rebuild his remaining leg. Sometimes we forget that the war doesn't end when these guys come home; the pain and disability they have to overcome remind them every day.

Later I was at Tedworth House, one of the Personnel Recovery Centres. It's very impressive, with first class facilities. It struck me that the work they are doing there is very much aimed at being an enduring process that will continue long after we've withdrawn from Afghanistan.

Has HBC signed the Community Covenant yet?

I am of course aware of the Military Convenant through my links with the Royal British Legion. I have Googled the Community Covenant as I knew nothing about it.
I would have thought that it applies mostly to areas where service and ex-service people settle. Not common in the Havant Borough.

Of our senior Councillors at HBC, several are ex-service, I will be asking them about this.
