You are all missing the point.
It is investment that is needed not demolition. Look at commercial road it was pedestrianised and the trade plummeted. At Christmas the whole area around the Tricorn was a mass of market stalls you had the old Finefair change into an indoor market and trades flourished. If a person had some money in the bank not earning much interest they could perhaps get a short term lease for say the old Streets with a few sheets of plasterboard and stud walls into about 10 or 15 small shops and let them to various crafts and perhaps a tea room etc and you might be surprised how quick word goes around and if you get the mix right it could be a gold mine. As already stated the one at Bosham is in a old house but does a roaring trade and it is hidden away not on a main road. Worth looking into I would have thought.

What happened to the parking area behind the old Empire cinema (on East Street)?

I appreciate the problems you all have with the planning dept at HBC. These are the people who agreed to the new Weatherspoons in Waterlooville next door to the Heroes. These are the same guys who have agreed to a new food retail outlet at Rowlands Av and are considering the demolition of two perfectly good bungalows to be replaced by sheltered accommodation for 26 couples.
Digging up 20,000 previous residents of Havant doesnt seem to bother them at all. East Street has become a desert since the Council offices were shut and moved to their new location which have now been reborn as a Citizen's Plaza. We are lucky in Waterlooville because anything with any history has been knocked down years ago! |

So true, no thought given to history or planning |

As someone who co-owns one of the few shops left in East Street this is all getting a bit worrying. It would be great for us to see more people/customers at our end of Havant but at the same time all the dispruptions we'd need to get through while this was happening could be really difficult.

A bit about the White Hart reopening in the News.
![]() http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/news/bus...pubs-1-4125061 Having served my apprenticeship as an under-age drinker in the Havant Town Centre, I can't honestly say the 'White Tart', as us lads knew it even then, has ever been one of my favourite watering holes. A lovely building from the outside, but never the place to go for a great pint, and not much to speak of regarding ambience or a sparkling clientele. ![]() The 'comments' following the article suggest it is to be marketed as a 'Sports Bar'. Fine if done with the same timeless aplomb as our Haysboat at Hayling's ever wonderful 'Lifey', for which live sporting events are just one factor in the mix that makes for a classic 'local'. But I cant help thinking a fresh approach needs to be taken if the revived pub is to merely inherit the displaced drinkers form, and ultimately share the same reputation and fate as, Havant's late and largely unlamented Star.
