We used to grow all sorts of vege on our small holding, chinese cabbage, khol rabi, pak choi and a few other things. If you grow things under a fleece you may get lucky but green fly does seem to be able to get through /under it. I sometimes feel it is more a matter of luck. We also use to have stronger pest control too.
Oh and we had chickens and ducks who loved to spend their days catching butterflies and moths.

Khol rabi - now there's a lovely vegetable that you rarely see. I used to grow it on the allotment. Just boiled or steamed with a bit of butter and pepper on it - yum!

Thanks. It's too late for these, but I'd like to try again next autumn as, being a member of the cabbage family, it can grow through the winter.

Trouble is with our 'winters' they are now so mild, winter brassicas used to safe from cabbage white butterfly and others caterpillers, now we seem to have brassica eating bugs all year!!

Yep! They've all gone to seed now with cabbage type flowers in bud. They were not supposed to do this.
