If people can look at email and the web, they can look at:

twitter.com/HaylingPolice

and see all the reports. Far more useful imo.

Surely more people have the Internet and can access Twitter and other web sites than are a member of neighbourhood watch. Plus they can access SNT surgeries every month which I know are not instant but at least keep people informed. In every street if one person has twitter and is concerned about crime likely to happen in that area they can notify or watch out for the vulnerable. Would agree Twitter much more instant as SNT, and all other departments of the police update regular.

I would certainly be aware enough in my area from Twitter alone if the need arises.

Just wanted to post a thank you to Hayling Island police last Friday eve, 27 July.

Police were present at our house after seeing our front door wide open for a while, and us lot not visible!

Thank you for checking that all was ok.

I might add that twitter users may want to follow Portsmouth and Hampshire Police as well as the RPU to get details of traffic incidents.

(Have been away from the forum hence delay in responding)

Had you suggested that the SNT publicise twitter as a vehicle for accessing crime updates I would have no issue but what you suggested was that "a much better solution would be for residents to follow the SNT on twitter and they will get the feedback immediately". Why should residents have to enrol in a social media site to get directed crime information? NHW may have its faults but it works!
You also suggested that "Ring rounds are time consuming" - they are, but they are a directed service and a vital part of the NHW process.

Again, apologies for delay but Havant NHW assured me that had police reports been produced a ring-around bod would have attended. I have a lot of time for our SNT but I'm afraid that this was a red herring! Their later responses to me about the situation were more accurate and made no mention of ring-around absences.
