P'raps we have a different sort of water?

(Well, that excuse works for the rail networks with the wrong kind of leaves).

Sorry, you lost me.
In post 29 you said that the lady said 'sand'. I think I remember something about 'sand' from my childhood, but I don't think we have any on Hayling - at least not to the east of the Inn on the Beach.
Did she show you what 'sand' was...?

The Cobb is a harbour wall, and actually rather small.

In the end, it comes down to cost. Is it technically feasible to protect Hayling while restoring the sandy beaches? I'm sure it is, but who is going to pay the millions required to protect a few hundred houses?

Ah, I think I understand now! Very small amount of grainy stuff that, if you drop the timer goes a very long way and gets between your toes!

Have a look at Mat's superb photos. Lots of sand there.
Looks like behind HISC to me, which is east of IoTB,
Don't be put off by folks who claim that is a private beach.
I've never had any problems walking along that way.

Well, others will know this too but when I was kid, a large chunk of Hayling had sandy beaches and they are still there - buried under the piles of rubble which the council gets chucked there. West Wittering still has sandy beaches just like Hayling used to have - because no seafront development has ever been allowed there so no need to prevent storm surges from flooding the seafront. In other words one of the daftest decisions ever which has subsequently cost taxpayers millions was to allow development along the eastern beaches almost up to the waters edge. It still doesn't work as we all know because every so often a serious storm combined with a high tide floods large sections of Southwood Road. Apologies to folk who already know all this stuff.

I was teasing folks!
I have looked at Mat's lovely photos - they are great Mat.
The tide out with the flat damp sand sent a shivver down my spine - that was the stuff (across the channel) I landed on and broke the ankle on!

Thought we were being invaded last night - I came out of my office about 2am to be greeted by bright white lights streaming in the front windows! Took me a moment to realise what was going on! I was surprised to see it going bat that sort of time as it is very bright and very noisy! It was still going strong at 3am but I must have got used to the noise in the end and gone to sleep as don't know when it left!

At least we were not being invaded

Hope that sand doesn't go too far. I always find that sand reaches parts soap just cannot reach.
