I'm not sure about that, lw. In the earlier application the agents made a big deal of having made substantial efforts to market it as a pub - these efforts in reality boiled down to putting up the rent asked by a huge amount (I think it was about 45%), having it hidden, unavailable or difficult to find on their website for long periods, and then asking a purchase price way out of line with other pub sites in the area. An image of forked tongues springs to mind.

A real offer which is in line with current pub prices rather than the vendors' housing-inflated ambitions could wipe out their argument for planning change of use.

I wonder how the amount currently being offered for the Rose in June, compares with what is actually being paid for comparable pubs marketed as 'going concerns', elsewhere in Hampshire and W.Sussex?

Just done my 'online' objection to the application to demolish the barn.

It is part of Haylings heritage, there is not that much 'heritage/character' left on the Island, all efforts must be made to retain what little we have.

You are a bit late with your objection Pete. Someone decided to take barn demolition into their own hands. Which begs the question why, on earth, would you want to preserve that new mess?

If you're into piles of unrecognisible and disjointed timbers then I hear the Mary Rose exhibition is worth the trip

They have these clever guys nowadays, who restore & rebuild things, a bit like the barn round Northney, opposite the 3 storey pads.
The barn should be rebuilt, which is what I included in my objection.
If you want to see more pop over to the Weald & Down Land.

It was reported this evening that another pub is for sale on the Island. I am worried that too many of our pubs may be lost.

Any comments Bruce?

According to English Heritage the barn is not destroyed as the foundations are still intact so the barn can be rebuilt. AND SHOULD BE.
