Unfortunatley you cant buy everything on the Island..... And with the cost of living so high, you cant blame people for having to look for a cheaper alternative either.

An hour or so ago I wanted to buy some bouquets garnis - not the most obscure of culinary ingredients. The local trader that I thought most likely to stock them was closed well before 5:30pm, and I wasted quite a dollop of petrol visiting the local branches of Co-op, Tesco(2) and Sainsbury before giving up. If I have to drive off the island to get them, I'll need to recoup some of the costs by stocking up on other goods at lower mainland prices.

Ta, hp, at that point I was sure one of the chains would have them.

I've made my own now - it's nice to have an unpredictable result sometimes!

Now, after a further visit to the Co-op, I have to confess to having traduced the shop.

It turns out that as well as the spice and herb shelf on which I had unsuccessfully sought the bouquets garnis, there is a separate Schwarz rack a few feet away which has a plentiful stock of them. Co-op, please accept my fulsome apologies!
