Never tried either myself so cannot comment on WD 40 or 3 in one but I do know where the name WD 40 came from. Any one else know? Sorry to digress Acea. With regard to sex on the page many years ago I tried it and fell off. Next time will by a broadsheet!

''historical'' - could you be a little more precise Jb? Are we talking Biblical? - if so a mere ''they lay to-gether'' or ''he knew her well'' will suffice. But if, for example, it is set in Victorian times, you have a problem - it was never spoken of!

You'll have lots of blank pages, the number depending on how much blank you intend to have in your story.

The sex may not have been talked about in all victorian circles, yet it happened as regularly as eating and sleeping.

Historically I think probably the 1800's and my dilemma is whether to allow it to become a bodice ripper or not, this started out as a childrens novel and has changed many times over. A natural evolution of story and plot has led me to question the sex thing again. Pushing it aside does not help the story, maybe there should be some suggestion and a little detail which then runs into emotion rather than explicit scenes.

Hmmmmmm.

It started off being innocent, no fairytale but definately fiction.

Not intended as a a bodice ripper........but in all honesty I think it is destined to go that way some of the time, hmmmm, do people read that sort of stuff?

You could go for suggestion rather than description. Although it depends on the type of person, or age range you wanted to aim it at. There’s a lot you can convey without actually saying it, although each person who reads it will have their own interpretation.

Quote:
Should the text be written so as to lead the reader through the story
Do you know how the story ends ? Have you got it worked out in your head, or on paper ? If so, you’re many steps ahead of anyone who will read the finished story, so you can use this to enhance the reading experience, by keeping the reader guessing. You can lead them through the story, dropping hints where necessary and allowing them to guess (correctly or incorrectly) where it’s leading. That way, you establish and maintain a level of suspense that entices someone to keep reading.
