If I'm in the water and in trouble. I'm not going to ask the person on the boat to show me his certificates be for I accept his/her help.

Yes all boat skippers have to hold first aid certificates , along with fire fighting and a fair few others. My hubby works in oceanography and I worked for them for a while and I compiled up to date folders of skipper and crew details for all the boats they used for work.

you should not have to ask it should be on display on the boat for all to see

Merlinwasp is 'in the water', and can't see what's on the bulkheads.

What a load of old cod's; I remember going across the "run" at Mudeford in a large open rowing boat back in the '60's. No-one bothered with all this palaver in those days, you just sat in the boat and kept still if you had any sense until you got to the other side. This country has gone H & S bonkers and it costs millions. Bet I will get into trouble for this but I don't care.

I bet you would change your attitude if you were going under the water for the third time, you must be on a death wish.

You are wrong Eccs, you are not in trouble (not from me anyway!!!!!) The problem nowadays is that people dont and wont take responsibility for their own actions. Everyone knows you have to sit still in a little boat so you dont fall over board, but the 'where there's a blame there's a claim' brigade think they can do anything they want because what ever happens to them they 'have their rights' and 'it wasnt my fault' need I go on?! Am going to stop and get off my soap box now other wise I will be in trouble!!!!!!

Smose, you are right, there is common sense & being responsible for your own actions.

Then there is the 'blame & claim brigade' partly foistered on us by too many years of 'Nanny State'.

"Stand up and be counted!!" (but not while you are in an ickle rowing boat otherwise it could be rowlocks for for you).
