Default Save our Countryside petition

I've just signed the petition to send a clear message to the government to protect our countryside and green fields.

Please sign the petition now:

Absolutely not, we need more affordable housing in the UK, not more. With only 15% of the UK currently urbanised, housebuilders could build another 250,000 houses per year for the next 25 years and only claim a further 1% urbanisation. It's time to stop this no building on greenfield sites nonsense once and for all

But it's not affordable housing which takes over the green land, it's second homes for the rich. There are plenty of brown field sites available but developers shy away from them because it costs a bit more to develop and reduces their obscene profits.

No more green should be taken while any brown exists.

I take pleasure in signing the petition Paul. Many thanks for bringing the opportunity to our attention.

With you on this Rumples. Also I believe there are plenty of derelict and empty houses that could be regenerated. Frankly, I can't believe we're even discussing this. We've lost so much already and now it's the turn of our once green and pleasant land. Does nobody think of future generations these days?

It doesn't have to be that way though does it. Developers prefer green land because they can build the houses they want to build and are not constrained to the ridiculous x number of houses per hectare which (current legislation dictates) forces them to build LESS profitable properties.

Wrong PN, very, very wrong - it's that lack of development of greenfield sites that keeps land to a premium and forces the costs up. Therefore depriving future generations of being able to own their own homes.

Like I said, 250,000 per year for 25 years would only increase UK urbanisation by 1%.
