Default Police activity today

We have two motorcyclists and I suspect an unmarked white van in operation; the van is parked just this side of the bridge. The motorcyclists have stopped several cars mostly "older" by the look of it so are they doing speeding fines or insurance/MOT/tax checks I wonder.

Why people insist on reporting ongoing Police activity on here I can't understand.

Fair enough once they've left, but this just plainly warns people who happen to read the forum, and can act in itself a deterrent to those with perhaps dodgy vehicles that would possibly be taken off the road.

Well I guess you are right andy and I will take more care in future but it is pretty obvious, I mean one can't fail to notice the quite rare presence of two motor cyclists operating and stopping vehicles.

Of course it's obvious when you approach (no point in turning around & going back again, as that is likely to get you stopped anyway) Eccs, but by revealing locations doesn't help them do their job. I think you'll find the van will be the ANPR vehicle, which will pick up unlicensed, uninsured, not MOT'd vehicles, as well as "known" vehicles.

Good luck to them - I pay my road tax, insurance etc - so those that think they can get away with not paying deserve no sympathy whatsoever.

Oh, forgot to mention - they've been about all over the Island this morning (saw one person getting booked in Elm Grove).

They're just checking the compos mentis level of the older drivers and seeing if there is any discernible brain activity.

They're having a field day on Hayling, years worth of tickets in one day.

PS. Did Eccles used to be an RAC patrolman and salute RAC members to warn of a speed trap

Yer right ducks, "not all oldies are compos mentis", went shopping today in Havant and came home behind Dilly, Dally and Dolly in their li'l ole Micra - 25 mph all the way and foot on brake everytime a lorry approached from the other direction. HID tells me not to get mad cos maybe they're having a nice day out.

The phrase you are looking for is "non compos mentis", Latin for "not of sound mind".

In my long and multinational driving experience the worst age range of drivers is 35-50, a time when aggressive business people can afford vehicles beyond their ability to drive and will drive aggressively in the same way they do business.

Same happens with boats and aircraft.

Ahh, here we go (Where is Mr R these days?) another thread going to degenerate into the old forum favourite "should old folk be behind the wheel"
