Default Painting fence panels and trellis

I'm wondering about using one of those spray guns to paint the fence. Bearing in mind some of it is trellis, surely the paint is going to spray through this and onto the other side? Is it the case that you have to protect plants and shrubs from the paint when spraying?? Having never used one before I'm wondering if those "in the know" could furnish me with some helpful info, please?

Don't do it. Contrary to what you see in those ads, it is a very messy business. The "paint" goes everywhere, you risk upsetting the neighbours and killing plants etc. Yes, using a brush may take longer although that is debatable, but it's not a job one does every week/month so just do it properly with a brush.

Agree totally with Eccles! We painted ours by hand, takes a while but quite a gentle task, and the paint seems to last a good time.

I'll third that, forget the sprayer, do it with a brush. You'll wish you hadn't bothered if you buy a sprayer.
