I would say the majority of kids since forever at some point aspire to be someone famous - and frankly, I would prefer my kids to aspire to be Jess Ennis or Chris Hoy rather than a wag or some twit of a bb winner. At least they stand a chance of being fit rather than plastic or thick.

I am not sporty at all, but I have loved nearly all of the olympics , I loved watching the dressage, and last night we even interrupted the quiz to watch The Bolt race.

The dressage was AMAZING! How do they do that?
Bit sad to read several of the horses are up for sale they must form a wonderful bond with their riders.

I equally dont want them to aspire to a BB winner we need them to aspire to be engineers, workers, chemists, people that make and create things, road workers, dustbin men and women, doctors, nurses, teachers, factory workers etc etc basically what I class as do'ers

I was surprised how much I enjoyed the musical dressage - the usual stuff does nothing for me. From my memories of the commentary I think some of the horses are getting on a bit and may be too old for much more competition.

On another track, is Nicola Adams the new poster girl for the British Olympics team? I didn't think I'd like ladies boxing but her final bout was amazing! I couldn't believe she was 29 - I was assuming about 10 years less than that.

Jennifer Ennis (gold medal heptathalon) Growing up in the Highfield area of Sheffield, Ennis attended Sharrow Primary School and King Ecgbert School in Dore, where she did her GCSEs and stayed on in the sixth form to gain three A-Levels, before going on to study psychology at the University of Sheffield and graduating in 2007

At that time she wanted to concentrate on her education at Fearnhill School in Letchworth Garden City, and later a degree in Sport and Exercise Science by Northumbria University, Newcastle upon Tyne. She enjoyed some success on the track as a student before graduating and becoming a full-time cyclist.

Peter Wilson (gold medal shooting) was educated at three independent schools: at the pre-prep St. Antony's Leweston Preparatory School in the market town of Sherborne in Dorset, the junior school Hazlegrove Preparatory School in the village of Sparkford, near the town of Yeovil in Somerset, followed by senior school at Millfield School in the town of Street, also in Somerset. Lol. Right now Furby, a whole lot more for this country than many of us and fortunately, they haven't put all their eggs in one basket so will be able to return to a career for which they have trained.

Oh, and if owners of sporting facilities are to be believed, inspired many young kids at the moment to get off their computer games and get some fresh air.

I do agree with you regarding puter consoles etc

My point is the chances of your average kid making it to the ollys is about the same as me winning the lottery, I feel our nation is becoming far too much "celebrity" based, be it sports or TV or Pop based.

We now hardly make anything, many of our doctors and nurses are from abroad, we import far too much, we make very little ourselves, which is fine while we can afford this style of living, but many younger people these days dont even know where an egg comes from or how a cup is made.

Thats what I'm getting at

Sport is a hobby, past time, nothing more nothing less, we can do without sport, we cant do without Doctors, Nurses, people to empty bins etc etc

Thats what I'm getting at
