There was an almost Pythonesque situation a few years back, when a tanker ran aground off Milford Haven. Legend has it that the ship's Captain was Chineese and spoke no English, and the only interpreter the could find to send out in the Pilot Launch, was a waiter from a local restraunt. Who it transpired spoke a totally different dialect, and couldn't understand a single word he was saying!

Yes, on Italian ships they have to learn the phrase; "I was not ona da bridge, some a one else was a steering ze boat whena she hita da rocks, I was aving dinna with a bellissimo blonde a ladeee"

No need to correct me, I know exactly what you mean and I think it terrible, when I am in another country I do my best to learn the basics and feel very embarrassed when I stumble about in their country.

What's the answer, make the draw at the end of each round so you have no idea who your opponents might be?
