Default ** Hayling Island Pop-Up Museum 27th 28th July **

Posting on behalf of an old school friend who is organising this!

http://www.lparchaeology.com/hipum/

Hayling Island Pop-Up Museum.

For one weekend this July Hayling Island will be home to its very own “pop-up museum”. The Museum will showcase the archaeology of North Hayling and in particular the Hayling Island Temple site which is located less than a mile from the site of the museum.

General opening times, tour times and lecture times are listed on the "when?" page of the website. Contact: [email protected]

More info: www.lparchaeology.com/hipum

Our idea is that the pop-up museum will, for its short life, be a full featured museum.
The concept borrows from the idea of pop-up shops, bars, and cinemas. It is more than just an open day, a site visit, a display, a talk or a tour, although these are the activities that it will provide. The Museum is more than the sum of these parts, it has its own distinct identity and purpose.

HIPUM will be located in the Northney Farm Team Room Barn. It will include a reception, displays of several kinds, tour departure point, “museum tea room” and a “museum shop”. To find out more about what’s on, please go to the what’s on page.
The museum will generate a legacy in two ways: firstly by [re]generating local (and wider) community interest in the archaeology of North Hayling, and secondly by leaving physical displays, handouts and other information that can be used in the barn on a more permanent basis.

Just to let forumites know that tickets for the tours and the evening presentation on the 27th July are on sale at Northney Farm Tea Room. The archaeologists that led the dig of the temple sites in the 1970s will be giving the presentation - I'm sure many Islanders of a certain vintage will remember the talk and tours given at the time.

There will be artefacts to view - including the remarkable inscribed chunk of altar, and many beads, brooches and pottery. We also have a 16mm film of the 1978 excavations which features a number of Islanders. Hopefully anyone who is interested in our Island history will be able to visit during the weekend.
