Seaside Award

Hayling Island has been awarded the Seaside Award Flag for three of it's beaches, namely West Beach, Beachlands and Eastoke Corner. The Seaside Award acknowledges those beaches with good management which are clean, safe and display up-to-date information for the public.

The Seaside Award recognises two categories of beach; 'resort' and 'rural'. A Seaside Award will be given a beach, which complies with all appropriate legislation, including the Bathing Water Directive 76/160/EEC and fulfils 28 land-based criteria, in the case of the resort and 12 in the case of a rural beach.

Tidy Britain Group reserve the right to refuse a Seaside Award a beach that is in violation of national environmental regulations, fails to demonstrate commitment to environmental enhancement of the beach area otherwise acts in discord with the objectives and spirit of the campaign. The flag must be removed there is any infringement of the criteria e.g. sewage pollution. A sign should be erected to explain the absence of the flag. TBG should be notified of any serious incidents of drowning.
