Horse Riding

Horses can be seen being ridden around the streets of Hayling during most hours of the day as it is very popular at present and always has been.

There are many stables around the Island in which privately owned horses are kept and ridden and also many fields that are owned solely for the use of horses.

Where to Ride.
Although many horse owners do ride their horses along the public highways of the Island, there is still many other areas of the Hayling where horse-riding can be enjoyed without the worry of cars and other road users.

Riding on Hayling Beach
It's hard to beat a gallop across the sandy flats of West Beachlands at low tide.  When the tide is at it's lowest sand and shallows stretch for some distance and are largely empty.

Between Good Friday and September 30th, riding is not allowed between the hours of 10am and 7pm.  Before 10am, after 7am or for the rest of the year you can ride to your heart's content.

Caution : If riding out on the sandback when the tide terms it is possible to get cut off by the incoming tide. Horses have been known to get in trouble in the past due to this.  For the safety of both rider and horse please check a current tide table and be alert of the state of the tide.

The Hayling Coastal Path
The Coastal Path, that runs along the East Coast of Hayling is a dedicated bridal path as well as a foot/cycle path. The paths are separated by a pole fence so there is no need to be getting under each others toes here. The path runs all the way from the Hayling Bridge to the old Railway Station in West Town.
