HIRA AIMS & OBJECTIVES
-
To represent residents in the various forums affecting
life on the Island and inform them of any outcome.
-
To strive to improve the quality of life for Hayling
Islanders and to be responsive to the needs and
wishes of residents.
-
To defend the interests of residents as far as
is possible within the resources available, by monitoring
proposed planning changes and recommending suitable
modifications.
-
To work and liaise with the County Council, the
Borough Council, Hayling Councilors and other outside
organisations and authorities relevant to the well-being
of residents.
-
To inform and involve residents by holding public
meetings at which local issues can be reviewed and
discussed and to arrange lectures and addresses.
-
To set up links with other Hayling Island organisations,
particularly those with recreational and charitable
objectives.
-
To increase membership. HIRA must have a sufficient
membership base for its views to be taken seriously
in negotiations and to provide a convincing mandate
for its activities. All members should strive to
increase membership by actively encouraging other
Islanders to join the Association. The membership
base should reflect the population of the Island
and so have members of all socio-economic and age
groupings.
-
To be financially viable. Whilst non profit making,
the Association must have the resources to satisfy
unexpected calls upon its reserves and also to add
to the community's amenities, when suitable projects
arise.
If you would like to join the Hayling Island Residents' Association please contact the Secretary: Carole Evans – 023 9246-7885. Annual subscription costs just £4 per household, with £15 for 5 years or £25 for life options.
