Olympians of the future
- Tue 21st Oct 2008
Since the ages of 8 and 9 Anthony and Conway Parke have been determined that they would sail at the Olympics. To further this aim they have worked very hard training and taking part in events round the country in their Optimists. This autumn Anthony ,now aged 12, has managed to gain a place in the Optimist Intermediate Squad. This was from his National ranking of 42nd. This squad is supported by the RYA with the purpose of feeding talented young sailors into the Youth and Olympic Programmes at the appropriate age and ability. Conway, aged 11, has gained a place in the South zone squad run by the RYA to feed talented sailors into National junior programmes.
Taking part in the squads means committing to training throughout the winter, however cold it is, at various venues round the country. They will also be taking part in open meetings throughout the winter.
