Hayling Legends brave the cold.
- Thu 8th Jan 2009
It turned out to be the coldest meeting in our short 3 years history, having already had two calls from members with starting problems I feared we would only have a token turnout. Surprisingly 15 classic cars and motorcycles turned out, no doubt encouraged by the news that the Portsmouth News were sending a photographer down to cover the event, which they did and we got a full page review the following day. Vehicles of note were a US Army’s 2˝-ton 6 x 6 truck, (which was the logistical Workhorse of WWII, over 800,000 vehicles were produced by GMC Motors, it was nicknamed the “Deuce and a half”, after its 2.5-ton capacity rating). A pair of late 1920’s Austin Seven ‘Chummy’s’ (so called because driver and passenger sat so close together). A well preserved 1950’s Citroen Traction Avant which stayed in production until 1975, a 1929 Ford based Hotrod and a brace of 650 cc BSA’s (Beezer’s) in solo and combination form. Also in attendance were MG's, a kit car, a Berlingo electric powered van which I understand of the type the French Post office 'La Poste' will be using in 2008, a troop carrier, and a Honda sports car amongst others.
Next meeting Sunday 1st February 2009 @ 11 am.
Just turn up with your car or bike if possible, have a beer and enjoy the company of people like you who love cars and bikes with character.
During the Winter months Hayling Legends meet on the first Sunday of the month at 11 am, in the Summer months we meet every Wednesday at 7.30 pm.
Venue: The Hayling Billy Pub, Elm Grove, Hayling Island, Hampshire.
