Police advise motorists following spate of thefts from cars in the Havant and Hayling areas
- Fri 30th Jan 2009
Police in Havant are issuing advice to motorists following a spate of thefts from cars in the area in the past few weeks.
Several incidents have occurred in the first weeks of 2009, including cars broken into and having items removed from them in Eveleigh Road, Salisbury Road, Stockheath Way, Cherry Tree Avenue, Cotwell Avenue, Woodfield Avenue (Farlington) and Kings Road (Hayling Island).
In total, there have been over thirty incident of this type reported to police in Havant since the beginning of the year.
PC Emily Dummer said: “Having your car broken into and items being stolen from it can be a very upsetting and expensive experience.
“We would strongly advise all motorists to make sure they never leave valuable items such as sat-navs, laptops, briefcases, handbags or other expensive items on display at any time. Don’t give the thieves an excuse to target your vehicle.
“Where possible, park in a secure garage or a busy area. Park somewhere brightly lit at night.
“If you see any suspicious activity around a vehicle, report it immediately to police.”
If anyone has information about car thefts they should contact Havant police station on 0845 045 45 45 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
