- Tue 2nd Jun 2009
The man who lost control of his motorcycle at Langstone roundabout on Sunday, May 31, died at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham.
He was George Parker, 78, of Briarwood Gardens, Hayling Island.
At about 1.40pm Sunday, Mr Parker attempted to move from lane three of the Langstone roundabout onto the on slip of the eastbound A27 when he appeared to lose control of his blue Yamaha.
The motorcycle hit a kerb, causing Mr Parker to fall from the motorcycle and suffer potentially fatal injuries. He died at about 9pm Sunday.
Today, his family released the following statement:
“George was a fit and active man. He was an experienced motorcyclist, starting as a despatch rider during the Second World War. He had more than 60 years’ experience.
“He used to ride two or three times a week. He was devoted to his family and would happily pick up the younger members of the family, if they needed transport. He was a keen gardener. He will be greatly missed.”
George leaves his wife Betty, sons Andrew and Barry and daughter Mandy, in addition to seven granddaughters and one grandson.
The family appealed for any witnesses to come forward and requested privacy at this difficult time to grieve.
