Police are seeking witnesses following an assault that took place on Hayling Island seafront, close to the beach café and the fair, on Monday, June 29.

At about 6.30pm, a 41-year-old man was in the area with a 42-year-old woman, when they were approached by a group of approximately six to eight men, believed to have been riding bicycles.

Some kind of altercation took place, during which the victim was assaulted by being punched in the face.

The victim received injuries to his face during the incident but declined medical treatment.

Detective Sergeant Martin Crocker said: “The victim has not been able to give us anymore details of this incident, so we are hoping that there may have been witnesses to it who can come forward and provide us with a more accurate picture of what happened.

“I would ask that anyone who was in the area at the time of the alleged assault to come forward if they witnessed it happen, or saw anyone acting suspiciously.”
