Gordon Brown Beaten Into Third Place By A Bumble Bee & Neil Armstrong

An enthusiastic crowd gathered in the rain at the Hayling Island Carnival on Saturday to hear who were the winners of the 2009 Scarecrow Awards. Over 200 official and unofficial entries featuring nearly 300 figures are on show across Hayling Island.

Marie Telford who chairs the organising committee for the Scarecrow Festival thanked the organising committee for all their hard work and all those businesses, organisations and residents who had entered this year and congratulated them all for the very high standard of the entries.

The winners were then announced in the five Award Categories plus the best Caption Competition these were:

Winner of The Best Caption was No. 7 Plight Of The Bumble Bee

The Scarecrow Festival continues for another week until Sunday August 9th. Ballot Boxes are at the Trail Sheet pick up points to allow visitors and residents vote for their personal favourite Scarecrow and elect The People’s Choice.

The result of this Election and the Trail Sheet competition will be announced on August 30th at the Playing On The Plaza event at Eastoke Corner.
