Canute on Hayling?

- Sat 28th Nov 2009

PLANS to protect hundreds of homes on a low-lying peninsula from flooding are to go on show.
Residents are being given the opportunity to find out more about proposals for coastal defences at Eastoke on Hayling Island.

The proposals, from Havant Borough Council, include improving the splash wall at the rear of the promenade, replacing timber groynes with new rock groynes, and redistributing shingle along the coast.

It comes after the council commissioned a specialist consultancy, HR Wallingford, to produce a detailed report on how best to manage and defend Eastoke.

Councillor Jenny Wride, in charge of coastal management, said: 'I do hope as many local residents as possible will attend the exhibitions and take the opportunity to discuss with our coastal team any concerns they may have.'

The exhibitions will be held at Hayling Island Sailing Club on Monday, December 7 and Tuesday, December 8, from 1pm to 7pm.
