Crash driver loses fight for life
- Tue 17th Dec 2002
A GRANDFATHER seriously injured in a horrific car crash involving three members of his family has died after a month in hospital.
Ray Tambling, 74, suffered serious head and chest injuries in the head-on collision near his home on Hayling Island.
Mr Tambling's car collided with another car in Selsmore Road on October 27.
His daughter-in-law Lorraine, 38, is still recovering from serious leg injuries in hospital and it is thought that she will not walk again for 18 months.
Mr Tambling worked as a plumber and builder but his daughter Joy Clark, from Dundonald Close, Hayling Island, said although he retired many times, he always found himself carrying out extra work for local customers.
She said: 'He was so helpful to people. He would go round some old lady's house and fix a problem for a cup of tea and a fiver.'
His funeral was taking place at Portchester Crematorium today.
