Everyone gets a byte with Havant online
- Fri 23rd May 2003
On 29 May, staff will be on hand to help people register with the Havant Online project, which aims to give everyone who wants it access to the Internet regardless of circumstance. Between 9am- 5pm the Centre based at the civic offices will introduce the Online project to members of the public who have not yet come across it and also encourage those that have to use it more regularly.
Members of the public can join Havant Online for 50p per year which will provide a membership card, email address and allow free access to the internet. It will also enable members to use interactive equipment such as a drum kit, sewing machine, DJ mixing equipment, digital camera
and scanner and packages to help with typing skills etc. There are a total of ten centres across the borough, which allow members to become familiar with new technology in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The centres are equipped to deal with the demands of all ages and backgrounds and
have been set up to enable people with disabilities to the use the computers.
Emily Harvey, Service Development Officer at the Borough Council says, "This is a great
opportunity for members of the public to gain access to a computer and the Internet. Once
registered at an annual fee of 50p, members can use any of the ten Havant Online Centres and its
facilities in the area free of charge. Volunteers and tutors will also be on hand to give help and
advice if required."
Havant Online is funded by the Government Office for the South East (GOSE), European Social
Fund (ESF) and the New Opportunities Fund (NOF).
