Islander Paralysed in Pool Accident

- Thu 10th Jul 2003

James LeclercJames Leclerc, 22, a former pupil of the Hayling School, has been left paralysed after a tragic accident in Thailand.

James, known as Jimbo, was travelling around the world with friends, and had been stopped off in Thailand.

A competent diver and swimmer, James had been diving into a swimming pool with friends but it went tragically wrong when he hit the bottom of the pool, damaging his spinal chord. He is now in a Thai hospital receiving treatment for his injuries. However his parents, Pat and Sue Leclerc, are now facing an enormous bill to fly him home, as James' medical insurance had expired at the time of the accident. Pat and Sue are also facing the cost of treatment once James returns home.

James' friends are family are now fervently trying to raise enough money to ensure that he receives the high level of care needed when he returns. Fundraising activities will be taking place around the island in the coming weeks, and any donations will be gratefully received.

If you would like to help, or would like to make a onation, please contact Ruth Newland on 023 92 482627 quoting "Appeal for James".
