Hayling Man discovers lost masterpiece (Maybe)

- Mon 9th Aug 2004

Computer Repair man from Hayling has discovered an old oil painting which had been covered by a modern painting. He paid £200 for the modern painting and then threw it away!
He must have had some idea what was behind the canvas.
The image depicted is not of the fragment found, but of the Saint herself.

He has a confidant in Ray Hek, a well character of Hayling, Ray used to have a strong man act some years ago, he was also a night club bouncer on Hayling and now he runs a second hand shop in Gable Head.

In a letter the Milan Gallery of Contemporary Art manager, Luisa Arrigoni said: 'The painting is a fragment belonging to a larger oil on canvas. It could be attributed to the Florentine School about 1530 to 1540.'

Ray is overjoyed as he has negotiated a 5% cut of the proceeds.

Well done Ray and your friend.
