- Wed 25th Aug 2004

Havant police are working closely with the major crime team today (August 24) to continue investigating the fire on Norfolk Crescent, Seafront, Hayling Island at 8pm on Sunday August 22.
One 29 year old man, who was arrested late on Sunday night, was yesterday evening released on bail until October 5 pending further enquiries. One other male is still being questioned in connection with the fire.

The police are also continuing full enquiries and an ongoing investigation at the scene. Dr Alan Anscombe, the Home Office Pathologist, who performed post-mortems on the bodies late yesterday evening, concluded that both men killed in the fire died of smoke inhalation. No other injuries were found. The bodies have not been formally identified at present.

Forensic examinations of the scene are ongoing at this stage and police urge anyone that was around Norfolk Crescent, known locally as “the Crescent”, at 8pm on Sunday to ring 0845 045 45 45 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
