This email was received in the Haylingisland.net offices. I have decided to post it as news.

Dear sir,
I would like to point your attention to a little rememberance
ceremony to take place on friday the 17th of september at
St.Peter's Church in North Hayling Island.
Not only will it be exactly 60 years ago that in Holland
during WWII operation Market Garden took place,
but also it was the start of a friendship between my
father (dutchman) Marcel Damen and young Grenadier
Guard Sydney Reading, one of the first soldiers to liberate,
my hometown, the city of Nijmegen. From that day on, their
friendship developed into something special, visits to Holland and
England made them like brothers and I have never seen so much
respect and pride in two men.
Sydney moved to Hayling in 1965 and we have
frequently visited him and his family on this friendly island. I was named after him and I am proud of it!
Unfortunately, Sydney Reading died in 1990. And with him, me and my
dad and the rest of the family in the Netherlands, would like to remember all of the brave British men who took part in the battle of Arnhem.
