Dear Sir,

I know that Police resources are limited, but I’d be grateful for some response to the information given here.

There is a group of local teenagers who gather on the Eastoke Corner Green, Hayling Island on most evenings/nights. They drink cans of beer and throw the cans all over the place.

This is not the central issue …..

Speeding along Southwood Road is an accepted habit for even ‘responsible’ drivers.

Recently, a new speeding-related habit has developed. The same teenagers who gather on Eastoke Corner, particularly on Friday and Saturday nights have one or two 50cc scooters/mopeds and mini-bikes between them. The baffles have been removed and the exhausts give out more than a 100 decibels. Last Saturday, their ‘trials’ went on from 22.30hrs until well past 3am.

I have double glazing and live 30 metres from the roadside. It was like an alarm clock going off every 10 minutes through the night.

Two of my cats have been killed by speeders on Southwood Road.
Had the drivers adhered to the 30mph speed limit, they may have had time to brake.

An ex-pupil of mine, Ben, sustained terrible brain damage about 10 years ago. The fault was more than partly his as he was drunk and walking the mid-line. But speeding also contributed to his being hit by a car.

I had an RTA incident slip posted through my letterbox a few years ago …..
“RTA in your garden, Police aware.”

A car was upside down in my front garden and there was extensive damage to walls and garden.

The speeding along Southwood Road is getting worse, particularly in the ‘rush hours’ and late at night.

Please could you do something to curtail this?

Yours faithfully
