Fire levels Hayling home

More that 40 firefighters tackled a blaze at home in Southwood road last night. The blaze, believed to have been started by an electrical fault, quickly took hold in the timber framed building at around 10.30 last night.The owner, local shop owner Patrick McClune, was trapped upstairs in the burning building and tried to escape via a first floor window. An Aldershot man driving past the scene saw Mr McClune hanging from the first floor window and scaled a drain pipe to assist in his escape.
Residents in neighbouring flats were evacuated from their homes during the night with fears of the fire spreading.
