Jules trades bricks for bikes

- Wed 6th Jul 2005

A BUILDER from Chorleywood will trade bricks and mortar for bikes and water when he cycles 420 miles for charity.

Jules Hewson, 45, from Chorleywood will take part in the Hayling to Paris bike ride to raise money for the Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre at Mount Vernon Hospital in Northwood.

The married father-of-two will take on the ambitious ride, from Hayling Island in Hampshire to Paris and back, from Sunday.

He said: "I do charity cycle rides every year and this year is the 20th anniversary of this ride. About 200 people will be taking part."

Jules, who describes himself as a keen cyclist, has been doing 50-mile cycle rides every day in preparation for the event.

He said: "I'm quite excited about doing it. People who have done it in the past say what a great event it is. It's tiring but in the evenings we can stop off in France and have a meal, so it's not all cycling."

Anyone interested in making a donation to Jules's fundraising efforts can telephone the centre on 01923 844177.
