20th RIDE 2005 ON TRACK FOR HUGE FUNDRAISING RECORD
- Wed 24th Aug 2005
Sponsorship pledges from cyclists taking part in this year's event now exceed a phenomenal £90,000! Coupled with Gift Aid tax relief and the fact that pledges are normally less than the money eventually collected in total, this could mean we could even reach the dream £100,000 for the 20th Ride. We must add to this the money being donated to the 70,000 Mile Appeal, for the benefit of Health Centre equipment, organised by John Clayton, of Bishops, which is now nearing £40,000. This is by far the best fundraising year for the Bike Ride and is a testament not only to the efforts of the riders, but also to the generosity of Hayling Islanders.
PLANS FOR THE 21st RIDE 2006
Having just returned from the triumphant 20th Ride 2005, we are already planning next year's 21st Ride. We are deliberating about the possibility of including Chichester's twin city of Chartres in the route, but this is partly dependent on the level of support from Chichester, since it does present substantial logistical problems. The other unknown is what is going to happen with the ferries, since P&O are dropping their Portsmouth to France service at the end of September and the future of the crossing to Le Havre is uncertain. We shall keep readers informed when more information is made available. The likely date for the return to the Island is Saturday, 15th July 2006.
However, reservation forms are soon to go out, so that riders can book their place, with a £75 reservation fee. So book your place now! New entry forms will be available later in the year.
