Henry Jameson charity curry banquet

Henry Jameson is 4 years old and CCCE will be doing a charity curry banquet to help raise some funds for him. Below is a note from Lucy the mother, about Henry.

These are Lucy's words:

In September, this year at the age of 4 our son Henry was diagnosed with a rare genetically inherited enzyme deficiency disorder called Gauchers Disease. Symptoms range from mild to severe and can appear at any time, from infancy to old age. Symptoms may include anaemia, fatigue, easy bruising and a tendency to bleed. A enlarged spleen and liver with a protruding stomach may also occur as well as bone pain, demineralisation and fractures.

The most common form of Gauchers Disease is type 1 and the type Henry has, this affects 1 in 100,000 of the general population. In the rarer Neuronopathic (types 2 and 3) Gauchers disease, neurological symptoms include an eye movement disorder and possibly ataxia (unsteadiness), fits, loss of skills and a central auditory disorder. Children with type 2 Gauchers disease die within 1 or 2 years of birth.

Henry is now receiving his treatment at Great Ormond Street Hospital, he has had an implant (Porto cath) inserted under his arm where he has his drip containing the Enzyme Replacement Treatment inserted, this will have to be done every 2 weeks for the rest of his life.

 I feel as a mother of a child with Gauchers disease it is important to do my very best to raise awareness and money to help research and hopefully find a much needed cure for this very rare and in many cases frightening disorder.
