‘THE SONG IS KING’ – WAS AN EVENING OF ACOUSTIC MUSIC
- Mon 5th Jun 2006
Cries for ‘more’ and ‘encore’ echoed through Hayling Island’s Station Theatre following an awesome celebration of the region’s musical talent. And the initial one-off event could become a regular showcase for up and coming singers and songwriters looking to make the big break into professional performance. ‘The Song is King’ is the brainchild of local singer, songwriter and musician Mark Green who chose the theatre – home of Hayling Island Amateur Dramatic Society – as the ideal venue for young and talented artists to take to the stage and perform in front of a live audience. Four acts - including ‘The Smoke Fairies’, Ben Reid, ‘Moma Jest’ and Mark himself, plus a guest appearance from vocalist Gemma Elton - wowed the audience with an eclectic mix of original acoustic sounds. “The evening was a huge success and one which will definitely be repeated,” said Mark who choreographed the whole event from conception to completion. “There is some amazing talent out there which deserves to be heard, other than in a pub. The Station Theatre provided us with the ideal venue and a more than appreciative audience who were totally overwhelmed by what they heard.” Following on from the sell-out event, Mark now plans to organise similar shows and invite other acoustic acts from the Portsmouth area to play. Mark can be contacted on 07908 429144 for further details of forthcoming shows.
