ENJOY SITTING IN TRAFFIC?
- Mon 17th Jul 2006
I have received this email from Ann Griffiths of The Langstone Residents' Association:
It is regarding the Planning Application by Fassett to build the 3 office blocks at the Havant (IBM) roundabout Bosmere Playing Field.
"The LRA committee asked me to email you, as the islanders are going to suffer most if the Fasset plan is approved. It is clear that the traffic lights go wih the plan and it won't be passed without them. We get the impression that the powers that be want more employees to enter the site from Langstone Road, to take the pressure off Harts Farm Way. With a detector loop on the roundabout, the southbound stream of traffic will be given priority in the rush hour. Of course, there is a chance that the Highways Agency will object to the plan, as it has already put in a holding objection. Francis Porter is also concerned about trafffic tailing back onto the A27 from Solent Road. What with Potash/Tesco/N.Solent Road etc, can you imagine the chaos while they try to build another lane around the roundabout?
Would it be worth HIRA writing to the Highways Agency/ HCC Highways Authority, copy to Andy MacLean at HBC, to express concern, in view of the fact that there is only one road off the island, which is already subject to tailbacks. Has Birkenhoff/anyone supplied a computer model to see what effect traffic lights will have on the a.m. northbound traffic? What relevant traffic counts have been done?
The LRA committee feels that you have the most to lose trafficwise and that it would be helpful if you could discuss this at your next HIRA meeting, to see if there is any useful action you could take. Andy MacLean of HBC is very helpful and experienced on traffic issues.
If you think it is worth writing to the Highways Agency, Francis Porter is at francis.porter@highways.gsi.gov.uk "
HIRA will write as suggested, but it would add strength to these oppositions if Hayling residents voiced their opposition and the problems it would cause them. It was bad this weekend without traffic lights! The email address is above.
