Armed Robbery on Hayling

Stoke Post Office, on Havant Road is closed today after two armed men held it up at gun point yesterday evening.

The two men, wearing balaclavas and armed with a handgun burst in to the shop and demanded money from owner Mahesh Patel at gunpoint.  Mr Patel raised the alarm with a hidden device and refused to hand over any money.

When a  customer in the shop bravely tackled one of the robbers, the gun was dropped and the men fled the scene.

The gun was later found to be a replica.

This is the latest is a series of robbery attempts on Post Offices on Hayling Island, including previous attempts at Stoke Post office.
