Sing for your supper
- Wed 6th Dec 2006
The 4th Sing for Your Supper event was held at Hayling Island Sailing Club on Friday 1st December when some 130 guests came to sing Carols by the Christmas Tree with Sarah Pinnell and the choir from St. James Church, Emsworth.
Everybody enjoyed seeing the choir in their red cassocks and appreciated that the funds from the hot mulled wine (which was donated by John Locke) and Winter Pimms ( which was donated by Pimms) was going towards a new cassock as they had 2 robes stolen the previous month.
HISC chefs John and Fritz cooked a superb 2 course hot supper and Helen Knight and Joan Powles baked mince pies to go with the coffee which was included in the ticket price and £5 of every ticket sold went to the Rocky Appeal Cancer Lab fund. The HISC staff made a big effort to get the Christmas Tree and building decorated for the occasion which was appreciated by everyone who attended most of which were not HISC members but friends and clients of Chris & Angie Driscoll, who as usual supported the fundraising event for another year.
A bottle tombola raised £530.00 and many thanks to all who donated. Special thanks to Sandy Redfern for collecting bottles from many of the people she cares for around the Island.
A silent auction raised £477.00. Once again very many thanks to all those who donated items and thanks to Lana Driscoll and Andy Kelsey for organising this part of the event.
£1717.50 was the amount raised including donations from people who wanted to support the event but couldn’t attend. After speaking to the guests about the importance of raising this money towards the total of 2 million pounds for the new cancer lab at Q. A. hospital, Mick Lyons said that 1 in 3 people in Portsmouth were now contracting cancer. He was very grateful to accept the cheque on the night.
£140.000 is still needed to complete the cancer lab which is due to open in the early part of 2007.
Any further donations please make cheques payable to Rocky Appeal and send to Mick Lyons at Q. A Hospital. Cosham or drop into Angie Driscoll at C.J. Driscoll Chartered Accountants, 19 Mengham Lane, Hayling PO11 9JT and if possible gift aid the donation so that the appeal can get the tax back if you are a UK tax payer.
Very many thanks to everyone for all your support. Over the last 4 events we have raised nearly £12,000.00 for the new Cancer Lab so well done to all my supporters.
