HIRA EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING
- Fri 29th Dec 2006
HAYLING ISLAND RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION
12TH DECEMBER 2006
SUNNYSIDE HALL, WEBB LANE
Present: Paul Fisher, Tony Higham, Dale Norman, Lois Neale,
Barbra Gardner, Claire Myers, Dave Turvey, Brenda Greenland
Apologies: Shirley Adams, Carole Evans, Don Hooker, Bruce Bennett, Margo Allen.
1. Matters Arising from the minutes of 14th November
2. Twinning signs Result should be made very soon.
3. Community Board Although the Community Board is a statutory body, it does not
hold funds. The Council listens to the Board and also provides
the Board with details of all planning matter.
4. Planning Issues Creek Road The developments in Creek road had been
piecemeal, resulting in a planning disaster and we should push to stop
other developments on the same lines.
Dilkusha The site had been ‘sold on’ and it was rumoured that
a retirement development was planned.
Rainbow Site and Beachlands Still on-going pressure to stop the
present plans for the site. The hope was that a hotel chain would step in with a commercial/community development.
New Ham Field Building There are rumours that this was planned as a centre for offenders.
5. NEHRA No report
6. Topics for Discussion
6.1. Community Board and Liveability Fund Update
The development at Eastoke corner will happen in the New Year and so we shall just have to wait to see how it turns out.
6.2 M T I
The launch will now take place at the Station Theatre on February 9th. It will be under the auspices of the HIRA Quarterly Open Meeting. The event will be by invite only, due to limited seating with preference given to contributors and some Council members. The DVD postcard will be shown and various aspects of the ‘Health Check’ explained.
6.3. Christmas Newsletter
This would include the Chairman’s Report from the AGM and would tie in with the
MTI. Paul had liaised with Rob Walton to include shots of Hayling, which will be
included on the DVD.
- 2 --
Topics for HIRA open meeting in April would be the threat to services on
the Island: e.g. Medical service, Post Office, Youth, and Transport. The
population has increased but the services have decreased.
6.4. Pride of Place
Hayling Island is top of list for the ‘roll-out’. With no funding provided, the MTI
is putting in an effort to find the funds needed, to support the Community Board, which has been tasked with implementation.
Several projects have been put forward including a Litter Pick and Street Sports.
Although this is an admirable concept, with the aim to reduce crime, it will be difficult to achieve without some funding or added infrastructure.
6.5. Beach Nourishment 2007
When the dredging takes place there will be a pilot exercise to put sand on a
section of the beach and monitor the results. The dredging has to take place to keep
the Chichester Channel clear. The placing of the sand has not been done before but the result could provide for future prospects on other parts of the beach.
6.6. Rainbow Site
An unprecedented request has been made to have the planning approval revoked and giving the reasons why.
7. Correspondence
There was a Brochure from the developing consultants for Bourne Leisure: Turley Associates, requesting comments on the 3 storey developments on the waterside at Sinah Warren, adjacent to the Kench. There was no reason to oppose this as it would provide a higher profile for visitors to the Island. However, there was a need to make the road more safe, possibly with a footpath and road calming.
8. Reporter
Nothing to report. This month’s article will be shorter with the MTI coming
as a separate article.
9. A O B
Margaret Little was to be thanked formally for her work with the HIRA, with
an invitation to the Station Theatre on the 9th February.
Christmas wishes were expressed and mince pies provided.
There being no other business the meeting closed at 21.15
