Forum spirit keeps road clear
- Sat 2nd Jun 2007
When a load of gravel was spilt in Mengham on Friday, the community sprit of the Hayling.co.uk forum kept the traffic moving.
News of the hazard was posted to the forum shortly after the load was shed on the pedestrian crossing in Mengham, informing many local residents of the danger of chipped windscreens and damaged painwork. One reader though took the message not simply as a caution, but as a call to action!
Forum member Roisin raced to the scene, dustpan and brush in hand, to clear the hazard before it could cause damage. By the time and HBC clean up crew had arrived much of the risk had been reduced.
This report goes to show that 'Community Spirit' is very much alive and well on Hayling, it also shows the power and versatility of the internet, on-line forums being a useful comunication tool.
The speed at which the good citizen travelled to and from the clean up task, meant that there was not an opportunity to take photographs Though I could post one of a dustpan and brush similar to the one that may have been used.
